The upstairs elephant prancing on your ceiling-his constant footfalls like a hammer being drilled into your ceiling 24/7. Combined with his inability to close a single door properly, the elephant is a force to be reckon with! From the moment he awakens, until the time he enters the world of dreams, he brings about the proclamation of his presence, as though to remind the world the grandness of his toxic existence! For as long as the elephant breathes and walks, the resident downstairs will not breathe a single moment of peace! Someday, a circle of elephant hunters will arise and destroy these despicable creatures!
The sheep sitting comfortably behind the counter, snapping away on her new cell phone. She is too busy posting selfies to mind those busy customers awaiting her attention. She does put on a show of effort though. An unhelpful silence here and there, a babble of misinformation, a rehearsal of obvious, and irrelevant facts. She's being paid for her precious time, not the quality of her customer service. Why should she care or even make an effort?
So what do these two creatures have in common? From the financial aid employee at your college full of misinformation, the ignorant professor, too egotistic to ever make "any" mistakes, to the greedy landlord who's primary concern is taking advantage of students and fishing their pockets for more profit? They lurk everywhere in our society, grow and spread like a plague! The prevalent attribute they all posses is their apathetic attitude when society allows them to not be held accountable for their actions.
I took the the Shuttle service at my University today, and was astonished by the rudeness and obscenity I suffered. The Shuttle service is a transportation service run by the University to support students living off campus, who do not have their owns means of transportation. I arrived last second and was about to sign up with the coordinator, but she simply dismissed me, saying how I should have signed up prior to the arrival of the Shuttle vehicle. Now here is the thing. The sign up procedure was simply my student identification number and the major intersection I needed to be dropped off. Hence, it is a simple procedure, easy to accommodate, even last minute. However, instead of signing me up, the coordinator was playfully arguing with her co-worker on who would drive the shuttle. She chose to dismiss me and avoid what would have been a two second procedure. Her decision resulted in me having to wait another hour for the next Shuttle.
Needless to say, I was not happy.
It is important to note that this was not a volunteer service, it is funded by a portion of our tuition. As such, these coordinators were student employees being paid. Therefore, I would expect a certain level of responsibility and quality of customer service. I was outraged by her attitude. It wasn't so much about that one specific incident, more so that the attitude displayed, mirrored so many others that I had to deal with in the past. The attitude which resulted from the lack of responsibility; one of carelessness and apathy. I sent an e-mail to her manager, hoping some sort of accountability would take place.
Injuries resulting from another's negligence and carelessness is the same as injuries suffered from one's intent to hurt. The end result is the same. If more people were held accountable for their actions the world would be a much better place. The attitude of carelessness and disregard of one's actions on others is despicable and toxic parasites like those, are much better off gone. I await the day when judgement unfolds, and karma punishes those who impart injustices on other people's lives, however great or small. In the meantime, I shall conclude with a quote from Fitzgerald "Great Gatsby"
They were careless people, Tom and Daisy--they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back to their money or their vast carelessness, or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made...
